Sampling: DAY 1 of learning about it

This post is in refrence to the post by Hemangi, named What would the researcher do? ( Thursday, March 29, 2007)

Hi!
Finally we begin our study about sampling. Well heard a lot about the word 'sampling', now will like to study in detail.
We have not learnt much about research up till now, but from whatever we have I am sure that a single researcher will not be able to find the opinion of the whole population of India about the politicians. Well there is a simple reason for my this answer, that a single person reaching out to such a huge population is next to impossible. The amount of time, energy & money spent on the research will be huge & it would be impossible to collect that data. When i think of buying a book, one always tends to see a few stories, & buy it. Like in the example given, if I were to buy a book of 1oo stories, I would surely browse through 4/5 & take the book, as i will see randomly any of the stories & if they are good enough i wll generalize my opinion of the book being good. The similarity between the two scenarios that have been presented, is that like we can choose the book assured that the book is good by just reading a few stories in the same way, the researcher may choose the small amout of population from the huge population of India to get the opinions. So, the possible solution to the problem could be that the reseracher chooses a represenattive of the whole Indian population, & conducts the research to find their opnions of politicans.

I Believe In Luck...So Do I In Myself

LUCK IN OUR LIFE
Life is not always beautiful,
But you can work hard to make it fruitful.
People say that luck knocks our door only once,
So we should try & grab it for our buns.
If we work hard to strive ,I am sure we will get five out of five.
Luck is always important ,but so is working hard.
Without hard work, luck will never help you make your own visiting card.
So, work hard & strive for the best & luck will surely look after the rest.
